2014 African rally champion Gary Chaynes promises to open his Mitsubishi Evox throttles immediately.

Co-driven by Cosmas Romain, the duo plans to keep their accelerator pedal down for the fastest stage times against the two highly charged Protos of Maxime Abondio in a Mitsubishi mirage and Frédéric Nobou in a Ford Fiesta Mk2 proto.

It’s a homeboys’ affair competition, as all foreign crews to contend for the 2023 African title were forced out of the West African event due to logistical issues.

The 25 confirmed crews are set to start with a 2.5km spectacular shakedown stage at Fondation FHB in Yamoussoukro City, today at 1505hrs local time.

Notable foreign crews that have missed the weekend action, include Kenya’s Karan Patel who lost last year’s title to Zambia’s Leroy Gomez, as a result of advantageous points the latter picked from the same event.

Another miss-out crew is of Uganda’s Yasin Nasser co-driven by Ali Katumba, who were earlier thought would debut their newly acquired Ford Fiesta R5, others that will be outlined at the next round in Kenya set for March 17th-19th, 2023 in Voi. More updates to follow…
