Final Assembly proceedings for the FIA were held last week in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital and biggest city. Internationally renowned motorsport champions were feted for their numerous accomplishments. This was also the case for Africa.
A South African senior school with Motorsport as part of their curriculum was honored for promoting motorsport among the youth. Daniel Pienaar Technical High School, from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, received this unique accolade as part of the FIA President’s new initiative to reward various initiatives. Anton Roux, Motorsport SA Chairman, received the award on behalf of the school.
Coming back to our own, Karan Patel and Tausseef Khan, the 2023 African Rally Champions, also made an appearance on the glitterati’s global stage. The duo were presented with their awards by Robert Reid, the deputy president of the FIA and a former competitor in the world rally championship.
Presenting their respective world championships were the champions of Formula 1, the World Rally Championship, and other motorsports. Indeed, it is the hottest ticket in town when it comes to motorsports.
In addition to our FIA Africa Rally champions, I would like to congratulate all of Africa’s rally champions on their respective national titles. Join me in promoting and expanding our sport as we continue to build the dream. I wish you all a fantastic festive season, and may we come back in 2024 stronger and even more determined.
God bless Africa and all who live on it.
