The Tanzanian organizing committee would like to inform stakeholders, rally teams, and spectators that a request to postpone Tanzania’s round of the African Rally Championship has been filed and requested with the FIA. The new date requested is set for the 10th to 12th of November 2023. The postponement was announced by the organizers as a result of sponsorship issues. The FIA is still to confirm this request.
In a brief statement, the organizers posted:
The organisers of the ARC Rally of Tanzania would like to inform you that, due to late sponsorship confirmations and time constraints, the organisers have requested the FIA for a date change from 21/23 July 2023 to 10/12 Nov 2023 subject to FIA approval
Kind apologies for all the inconveniences caused due to the above
The Tanzanian Sports Ministry has offered its assistance to the organizers, although the budget has barely reached half of the needed finances at this stage. The venue for the 2023 tournament has been identified as Iringa.
The Tanzanian Motorsport Federation has said unequivocally that there is no intention of cancelling the event. It recognizes the significance of the event for Tanzania as well as the African Rally Championship.
With only four weeks until the original event date, the team is under too much pressure to organize and deliver a high-level event, which is always the goal. The Tanzanian Motorsport Federation regrets any inconvenience this may have caused.
By postponing the event by 4 months, will give the team adequate time and by then the other 50% of the planned budget should be in place.
A final Press statement will be released once confirmation of the postponement has officially been approved by the FIA.
