2022 African rally championship runner-up Karan Patel posts fastest qualifier times at Equator rally running in Voi.

Running in a Ford Fiesta R5, Patel co-driven by Tauseef Khan opened their car throttle right from two free practice runs, before posting the day’s fastest times of three minutes 47 seconds.

The crew hits the road as car number one for leg1 on saturday, which opens with two special stages of Charcoal1 and Camp1, before having an early morning remote refuelling then rejoining two other stages before the first service.

Kenya’s 2023 WRC youngster driver,Hamza Anwar posted the second fastest times and left the ramp as car number two, followed by 2023 Kenyan championship leader Jeremiah Wahome in third place.

Uganda’s Yasin Nasser in Ford Fiesta R5 ‘Nemo’ chases the front running pack in fourth position, as the veteran driver follows him in fifth place.

Uganda’s other hope at the Equator rally, Jas Mangat in an Evox got a mechanical breakdown when his front right suspension gave way.

He leaves the ramp as car number 12, as he reawakens his African rally championship title dreams after a decade away since 2013.
