Ishy Renu Photography: What made you start motorsports?
Karan Patel: I went to visit a young boy riding his motocross bike at the race track, and I think from that moment on I wanted to be the one on the bike, and then from there I became the one who wanted to be behind the wheel of a rally car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRP: Debut race in KNRC and in ARC?
KCB Home Loan Rally 2014 and ARC Safari Rally Kenya 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRP: What has changed in your racing style over the years?
KP: A lot has changed; obviously, as we compete in more rallies, there is even more change in my style. The changes never stop, and most of those changes are improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRP: What preparations do you follow before a rally, for yourself and your car?
KP: My daily routine is such that I\u2019d be ready to race at a day\u2019s notice. I\u2019m always striving to be better and stronger, both physically and mentally. Likewise, the car is worked on as soon as a rally ends in preparation for the next. Its a non-stop process that is high pressure and requires high attention to detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRP: Who do you look up to in life and in motorsports?
KP: In life, I look up to my father. Like any good son would do for a good father, I want to live to fill his shoes someday and follow in his footsteps. The only thing I\u2019m doing wrong with respect to this is that my dad used to be a co-driver, and I want to be the driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRP: What fuels your passion for motorsports?
KP: I have a passion for speed and competition. I am more passionate about making my family proud of my achievements, and I hope to continue to be a champion for as long as I can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRP: What is the most memorable and dramatic moment so far in your rallying career?
KP: There are many. If I start talking about them now, you\u2019ll be reading till way past your bedtime.

IRP: Now that you have won the KNRC and ARC, what is your plan for the coming years of rallying?
KP: My plan is to follow God\u2019s plan. I will sail with the wind and see what the future holds for us as a team

IRP: What advice would you give to young rally enthusiasts who would love to join the sport one day?
KP: My advice to them would be to first prioritize their education and getting a job before they delve into the world of motorsports because, as it currently stands, its very hard to earn a living from the sport, but I hope one day this will change for the better so that it benefits everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
