2008 Tanzania Rally Results

ALLIANCE / KOBIL / KCB RALLY OF TANZANIA
Final Report End of Rally - Sunday 10th February 2008 - 22h30

Zambians Muna Singh and David Sihoka led for start to finish to win the Rally Tanzania 2008 in fine and conclusive stlye. Driving a Subaru Impreza Muna finally broke his own 'Tanzania jinx' for this rally has eluded him in the past.
Second overall and definately the drive of the Rally was Ugandan based Jas Mangat and Kenyan co-driver Kashif Sheikh also in the ex-Lola Subaru Impreza. This was only Jas's second rally in this car and his first ARC event. Previously he drove a two-wheel drive Golf GTi.
From the morning start on the second leg Emmanuel Katto was in third with Jamie Whyte (Zim) in forth and after stage 6 (first of the morning) Katto and Jamie had puntcures and fell back giving 3rd spot to Navraj Hans who then had a puncture in Stage 7 giving 3rd place to Lola Verlaque.
Finally Lola and Megan Verlaque finished 3rd overall with youngster Randeep Birdi in 4th place and James Whyte in 5th.
Japanese Hideaki Miyoshi and Hakaru Ichino whose rally car was still stuck in Mombasa port borrowed a Mitsubishi Lancer rally car in Tanzania and struggled with poor suspension to finish a creditable 8th overall and get three championship points for their effort in nursing the car to the finish.
Kenyans Azar Anwar and Asad Anwar both retired with engine failures in the Leg 1.
15 cars started this ARC round and 10 cars finished.

Muna leads from start
Surprise new youngster Jas Mangat from Uganda (formerly Rwanda) second +2:41 behind.
Ugandan Katto and Matovu 3rd + 16 seconds
Navraj Hans is first Tanzanian +1min 4 seconds behind Katto

Asad Anwar and Ravi Soni out in Stage 1 with blown engine. Azar anwar and Imaran Khan retired stage 2 blown engine. Anwar Pandya out engine failure. Raju Sehmi rolled in Stage 5 but may conitnue.
