Tanzanian Saleh Balabouh will not start the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally after not coming to scrutineering this morning, Muna Singh of Zambia arrived first with his new Subaru Impreza N10 car supporting new SUNVIC and MADISON livery. Ugandan resident top contender Riyaz Kurji said that Muna Singh, Richard Robinson (Zimbabwe) and Emmanuel Katto will be his biggest rivals in this ALPHA

PRESS RELEASE 2 : Alpha Pearl of Africa Rally 2006 - updates

With only two days to closure of entries of Alpha Pearl of Africa Rally 2006, Richard Robinson / Colin Schreiber from Zimbabwe has become the latest
entrant. He will be driving a Mitsubish Evo.6. This brings the total number of foreign entrants to eight. The earlier entries include Muna Singh Z, Paul Monge Z, Omar Bakheresa TZ, Pano Calavrias TZ, Ahmedi Huwel TZ and Saleh Balahbou TZ.As the clock continues to tick towards the closure, many Ugandan rally fans have not yet lost hope about the Kenyan entries more especially from Azar Anwar. Rwandese have also shown interest, although it is more of the Rwandese fans that are asking more about the event than the drivers themselves.

However, in Kampala, the rally fever is real high with the entry of crowd puller Emma Katto who recently acquired Subaru Impreza. Infact the song in Kampala is that he is the savior that will help Ugandan keep this trophy home. Others are Riyaz Kurji who though Ugandan, he is driving under the Kenyan license. Organisers have already secured accommodation for the foreign crews and they are busy working on the fuel sponsorship. Organizers have also organized recc cars at an affordable price for foreign drivers. Local drivers continue to register as the dead line closes by.

This years Apha Pearl of Africa Rally super special stage has had its fomart changed. Unlike the previous double circuit track, this time round, it will be
single track with cars released at an interval of one minute. “This will save u a lot of time and will increase on the level of safety. It will also give spectators non stop action” says Jack Wavamuno, the chairman of the organizing committee. The stage will have a total distance of 2.3km and will be done twice. Meanwhile the weather in Kampala remains cloudy with scattered rain showers. Local fans are happy with this kind of whether which they say will give them better views, from dust.

SSEBUGUZI, ROBERTS, ENTER ALPHA PEARL RALLY

Ronald Ssebuguzi Bob Roberts and Kuku Ranjit are the latest drivers to join the Alpha Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2006. Fourteen drivers have so far registered for the Ugandan round of Africa Rally Championship (ARC) scheduled for April 21-13. Ssebuguzi winner of the Mbarara Rally last month will drive Mitsubishi Evo4. The Jomayi Property Consultant sponsored driver leads the National Rally Championship (NRC) with 175 points 10 ahead of Ponsiano Lwakataka reigning national champion. Kuku Ranjit who has been out of rallying since 2004 Alpha Dairy Mbarara Rally has registered. Kuku told Daily Monitor that he wanted to beat the registration deadline of Saturday. " If my Subaru Impreza N11 arrive in time I will definitely drive the Alpha Pearl Rally," he said. Zimbabwe's Richard Robinson has become the latest entrant into the event

SPOKESMAN CONFIDENT UGANDANS WILL ENTER ALPHA UGANDA RALLY - Wednesday 5th April 2006

KAMPALA- Five Tanzanians, two Belgians and one Kenyan entry are the latest to register for the Alpha Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2006. The Tanzanians would drive under STADO Team while the Belgians EMOsport Team and the Alpha team. Their entries bring to 12 the number of drivers registered for the
Africa Rally Championship (ARC) event set for April 21-23. Muna Singh, Paul Monge from Zambia, Uganda's Emma Katto and Etorri Storchi are the
other drivers. Entries close on Saturday, April 8 at 6 p.m. A number of local drivers have picked entries forms but yet to confirm their entries. However, Dusman Okee the spokes person of the event was optimistic the locals would beat Saturday registration deadline. Okee also appealed to the local drivers to
purchase fire proof overall as per rules. " No driver would be allowed to drive in the ARC event without the necessary gear," he told Daily Monitor.

 
The event would have a total of 811.30km spread over three days. First leg would a super special stage in Lubiri double circuit to cover 4.7 km, leg two on Saturday takes the drivers to Wakiso and Luweero districts and will have nine competitive sections (CS) of 423.3km while leg three on Sunday in the same area has 354km. Alpha Dairy Products have milked in Shs200m. Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo, Packaging Technology, Dolphin Suites, Neon City, WBS TV, Simba FM and CBSFM are cosponsors.
 
ENTRIES VERY SLOW IN COMING IN FOR UGANDA RALLY - Tuesday 4th April 2006

Only the foreign drivers have submitted entries for the Alpha Dairy Products Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally at this stage and the organisers are making efforts to get the Ugandan entries to submit their forms before the closing of entries deadline on the 9th April 2006.

Other entries are expected from Azar Anwar (Kenya) and Richard Robinson (Zimbabwe) and it still remains to be seen if the very quick Ugandans like Charles Muhangi (former ARC champion), Charles Lubega and Moses Lumala will enter this round of the fast growing ARC series.

ALPHA RALLY LAUNCH TODAY- Monday 3rd April 2006

KAMPALA- ALPHA Pearl Uganda Rally 2006 will be launched today at Dolphin Suites, Bugolobi. The function is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
The event the third round of Africa Rally Championship (ARC) will take place from April 21-23.During the prize giving ceremony at Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo last year, Riyaz Kurji who was the winner of the event said that this year event would be fully sponsored by Alpha Dairy Products. The event would have a total of 811.3km of which 278.9km is competitive and the rest transport. Just like last year, the event would be held in Wakiso and Luweero
districts. Entries are open for the event. Drivers are requested to collect their entry forms at FMU offices, Lugogo Indoor stadium. Jack Wavamunno is the chairman of the organising committee while Kisitu Mayanja is the clerk of the course.

 
ALPHA DAIRY PRODUCTS SPONSERS THE 2006 PEARL OF AFRICA UGANDA RALLY - Friday 1st April 2006

BUGOLOBI- ALPHA Dairy Products have handed over a cheque of Shs200m to the organisers of Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2006. The event is scheduled for April 21-23. Bobby Sheth, Marketing Manager of the company handed over the cheque to Jack Wavamunno, chairman of organisers at a function held at Dolphin Suites, Bugolobi. In his massage read to the organisers read, Riyaz Kurji Chairman Alpha Group of companies said that he so grateful and happy to be the main sponsor for the Pearl. " It is the very first time to sponsor a big event and I have confidence in the organisers," he said. Kurji also said he would make a special commitment at the prize giving ceremony for the event next month and his support for motor sport in the country is strong despite not driving for Uganda. The rally ace also announced that Speke Resort Hotel Munyonyo, Packaging Technology, Dolphin Suites, Neon City, WBS TV, Simba FM and CBS FM are cosponsors.
 
Wavamunno on behalf of his team thanked Alpha for the sponsorship package. He also said the event would be called Alpha Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally
2006. Wavamunno also said that they expect between 10-12 foreign drivers for the event. Kisitu Mayanja, clerk of the course said that the event would have a total of 811.30km spread over three days.
