2006 South Africa Press Releases
Ex-champ McRae for Zulu Rally
03/04/2006 14:42

Former British Rally Champion Alister McRae has announced that he will be competing in the Zulu Rally South Africa in May.
Also making the trip to SA will be British businessman John Lloyd. Both drivers will be driving Mitsubishi Evo VIIIs prepared by Neil Allport Motorsport of Auckland, New Zealand.

Alister McRae is one of Britain?s most experienced drivers, having competed 76 rounds of the World Rally Championship.
The Scottish driver has previously competed on the Safari Rally in Kenya, but this will be his first competitive outing in South Africa.
McRae is this year competing in the Chinese Rally Championship and got off to a good start when he won the opening round.
Alister is part of the illustrious McRae rally family; with father Jimmy the most successful British Rally Championship competitor in history, with five titles.

John Llyod's African events experience

He is no stranger to the African Rally Championship, having finished second overall in Namibia and third in the Equator Rally in Kenya.
"I was born in Tanzania and grew up in Kenya so I have always had a great love of Africa,? he says.
"Having competed on rounds of the Africa Rally Championship in Namibia, South Africa and Kenya I feel that Africa should have a round of the World Rally Championship.
"I am looking forward to competing on the event among the international entries and with Alister McRae as my team mate.
McRae and Lloyd are both looking forward to the challenges of the stages in the Durban district. It will be a new event for them both and a new country for the Allport Team.

Zulu Rally builds up speed
31/03/2006 09:00

Momentum continues to build ahead of the Zulu Rally South Africa taking place in May.
The event, to be staged in Durban and surrounds, is a round of the FIA African Rally Champioship and South African National Rally Championships but, more importantly, it doubles as South Africa's bid for inclusion in the World Rally Championship (WRC).
Safety is one of the areas the FIA will be monitoring extremely closely on the event.
The event will be a dry run for a WRC event, and will run as close to WRC standards as possible.
To date two FIA delegates have visited South Africa to offer advice and assess the various safety aspects that have been put in place.
FIA delegates
"We have, to date, hosted two FIA delegates - the first being the FIA's Sporting delegate, Piero Sodano, who inspected all aspects of our event organisation thus far.
"We are still awaiting his official report but received positive comments from him during the course of his visit.
"We have also since had a visit from the FIA World Rally Commission's safety working group delegate, Daniel Grataloup - who is also the team co-ordinator of one of the top WRC teams. He was here purely to inspect stage safety.
